Magic: The Gathering tournament to benefit the American Heart Association

groundZero to host Rose Robertson Memorial Magic: The Gathering Tournament to benefit the American Heart Association

On June 29, 2002 groundZero Cards – Comics – Games will host a charity tournament for players of the Magic: The Gathering Trading Card Game from Hasbro/Wizards of the Coast. The goal of this event is two-fold: to raise awareness of heart-related diseases and to raise money for a donation to the American Heart Association in the name of Rose Robertson, a Mobile resident. Rose Robertson was the mother of Johnny Robertson, an accomplished player of Magic: The Gathering, and was unaware that she had any heart-related problems until she died of a massive heart-attack in March of this year.

There will be a $5.00 entry fee for the tournament. This fee will be matched by groundZero making a total of $10.00 per person that will be donated to the American Heart Association in the name of Rose Robertson. Prizes will also be awarded for the tournament as follows: The first-place winner will receive a $500.00 cash prize, a random player will receive a $250.00 cash prize, and another random player will receive a credit for $250 in store merchandise, good at any groundZero location.

“We are hoping to have around 100 people for the tournament” said Tom Ray, an owner of groundZero. “This will allow a donation of $1000 or more.” Mr. Ray went on to add that you do not necessarily need to be an experienced player to compete in this tournament. “The game is easy to learn, appeals to all age groups, and the two random awards will mean that anyone has a chance of winning. The more people we have attending will make the tournament a fun event and a true memorial to Ms. Robertson.”
